THE CLIENT
The International School of Düsseldorf e.V. operates a school campus in the Düsseldorf Kaiserswerth district. On this campus there are a total of 7 buildings, where the Elementary School, the Senior School and two sports halls are located. With a total of approx. 1080 pupils from 50 nations as well as 240 teachers and staff, the school develops constantly with an eye to the future, focused on cooperative and interdisciplinary learning.
THE TASK
Based on a completely new school concept developed by an American planning office, the task was to fundamentally redesign the existing school areas to make modern forms of teaching in open and communicative spaces possible.
THE PLANNING PROCESS
Together with the American consulting and planning office Fielding Nair International, ISD, with the support of our planning partner Carpus + Partner, has developed so-called “Pathfinder Projects”, which are intended to provide an initial structural outlook into future learning landscapes.
THE REALIZATION PROCESS
The client’s high design requirements had to be met during the summer holidays by intervening, sometimes considerably, in the supporting structure of the existing buildings in order to ensure smooth school operations after the holidays.
THE CHALLENGE
CP Bauteam GmbH brought the first of these projects to completion within 6 months and then built and officially approved the building within 8 weeks.
